Sonata Pathétique
Acrylic on Canvas, 20” x 30”, 2023
I created this pair of canvases as a complementary expression for a concert featuring the collaborative performance of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8. Although the project was not commissioned, it emerged organically in tandem with my personal exploration of the sonata. During this period, I was immersed in learning the composition and was profoundly moved by its emotional nuances, particularly considering that Beethoven composed this sonata amid the realization of his gradual hearing loss. In translating the evocative journey of the sonata, I aimed to capture its mood transitions from movement to movement. These paintings serve as a visual essay, reflecting my attempt to encapsulate the profound emotional landscape of Beethoven's Sonata No. 8 through the interplay of colors and forms.
